The REAL Secret to Building A High-Profit Internet Business

This is the second of 3 posts are by a special guest… Mr. Jimmy D. Brown. I have been associated with Jimmy since around 2002 or 2003. He was one of my earliest Internet teachers.

He is a Guru’s Guru and a marketer of impeccable integrity and has walked his talk as long as I have known him and he has made a fortune doing so. I am one of Mr. Brown’s affiliates, so if you buy anything from him as a result of a link on this site, I will make money.

He has a very factual, easy to understand teaching style and I hope you will enjoy him as much as I do. Now, Mr. Jimmy D. Brown…

The REAL Secret to Building A High-Profit Internet Business

By Jimmy D. Brown

My wife laughs every time she sees me doing it.

At least once or twice every week, I’ll be at my desk (or at the dining room table) with my Franklin Covey planner open and a stack of laminated checklists in hand.

“What are you doing, honey?” she calls, already knowing the answer.

“I’m planning,” I reply with a smile.

She laughs and I get back to work.

She laughs because she swears I spend half of my time “planning”. But, if you ask me how I’m able to get as much work done as I do in only 3 hours a day, I’ll point to a black Franklin Covey planner with about a dozen laminated checklists inside.

Building an Internet business is easy. Seriously. I’m not saying that it’s not complicated,  because it is. I’m just saying that it’s easy to accomplish if you just have a system in place.

There’s very little in this world that can’t be accomplished with the right set of action steps in front of you.

Today, I’m going to give you such a system for building your Internet business. There are only 4 steps…

Decide What You Want To Do. Do you want to run an eBay(R) business? Be an affiliate marketer? Buy and sell reprint rights? Get involved in niche marketing? While all of  those things will likely find their way into your plan in time, you gotta begin with one thing at a time.

My recommendation: Choose a “broad” topic you are interested in and begin building a list of folks interested in that topic.

Determine A Weekly Action Plan. After you decide what you want to do, it’s time to determine how to get it done.

What I do is this: I create a weekly set of action steps.

That is, I have a set of things I do on Monday, on Tuesday and so forth. Decide how many hours (as little as ONE) you want to work each day and schedule yourself a reasonable amount of things to get done in that time frame. Repeat
this process week after week.

My recommendation: Begin writing ezine articles to promote your list … and affiliate programs. It’s the easiest way to get free traffic and build your list at the
same time.

Devote Yourself To Staying On Schedule. The important thing here is to stick to it. The asiest way that I know of to make certain you develop discipline in your schedule is to NOT set unrealistic expectations. Give yourself ample time to do each day’s action step – don’t overschedule.

Look for progress along the way to celebrate. Reward yourself when you’ve reached a milestone. And, remember, you’re GROWING a business. Just like physical growth, it
takes time … it WILL happen if you remain committed.

My recommendation: Weave in simple activities related to the following categories – List building (ezine articles), product creation(conduct interviews or hire ghostwriters), site development (making your site convert more visitors into buyers) and education (continuing to learn new ways to grow your business)

Develop Additional Shortcuts. As you get better and better at working with your lists, creating products and tweaking your site, you’ll want to continue to improve your business with new ideas, strategies, tools and resources.

The key is simple: never stop learning!

Visit forums. Read articles. Download reports. Identify sites and resources that CONTRIBUTE to your success in educating you. You want faster results, bigger increases, automated processes, and other ways to get more accomplished
and more profit, with less work involved.

Everything depends on you developing a plan and sticking to it.

And that is the REAL secret to building a high-profit Internet business!

Unloading From Information Overload – Part 2

What Can You Do About Information Overload?

Starting a new marketing project is quite like rolling a boulder up a hill.  If you are clever, careful and work at it, you can get the boulder to the top of the hill and then let it roll down the other side.

Once you do that and keep the slope in front of the boulder clear, the boulder will keep on rolling, pickup speed and smash everything that is in its path.

But, imagine what happens when you have two, three or four projects you are working on.  If you try to move more than one boulder at a time to the top of the hill … forget it!  You can probably bet money that not one of the boulders will ever get there!

Internet marketing is like that.  It takes a lot of focus to get any project going and that is, in fact, the best solution to both problems.  Remember the boulder… once your project gets over the top of the hill and picks up enough speed to smash everything in its path it will be like nothing you have ever experienced.

The best solution to both problems is to FOCUS.

What does that mean?  It means that…

… If your problem is over commitment, take a step back, take a deep breath and choose just one or two projects to work on; and, one of them can be your J.O.B.

After you choose what you’re going to work on, absolutely refuse, totally resist and turn your back on anything that might influence you to start another project before at least one of your current projects is totally, completely finished.

This is the only solution to overcome your tendency to do more than you have time to do which is a vertical drop to failure.

… If your problem is information overload, you need to understand the root cause of the problem… you are probably listening to too much information from too many “Gurus.”

I had this problem at one time in my internet marketing career.  And, here’s what I did:

  1. I stopped listening to everyone who had a product that I could afford to buy.  I stopped hoping that the next “Expert” would give me the “magic formula to success” on the internet.

Let me save you a lot of time and money… There is a formula for success on the internet:  Hard Work + Intimate Knowledge of a “Laser-Targeted” Subject Area with Potential will almost always yield Internet Marketing SUCCESS.
  2. I choose specific Internet Marketing Experts to learn from for specific reasons that were and still are important to me. You need to do the same.

Here’s a warning and it’s tremendously important:  Choose only one Expert to follow.  That expert should be one that teaches enough that you can combine what you learn from them with what you already know so that you can accomplish your Business Objectives.

Remember, I have been involved with internet marketing since the late 1990s so I have a few more Experts on my list than most of you might have.  Here’s my list:

    • Jeff Johnson – Tremendous is the only word to describe him.  And, he has tons of free training videos.  He does SEO with an emphasis on Video and Affiliate Marketing.  You would do well to go to sleep at night listing to his stuff.
    • Mike Koenigs – His traffic driving sales system (Traffic Geyser) is awesome! His training is well organized and easy to understand.  I use him now in almost all of my SEO-based marketing campaigns because of the Traffic Geyser Tool.
    • Jimmy D. Brown – He’s one of the “steady Eddies” of Internet Marketing. Hugely successful, simple, easy to understand approaches to making baskets full of cash on the internet. Unfortunately, I think he’s retiring.  I’ve been buying his stuff since around the year 2001.
    • Mark Ling – His Affilorama product line is absolutely outstanding.  I’ve only done a small amount of business with him to date.  But, I really like his “stuff.”

He teaches you how to build a business on the internet a little piece at a time.

Then, one day, you wake up and realize that you are making tens of thousands of dollars (USD) per month and it was really easy getting there.  If Jimmy D. Brown really is retiring, Mark will be replacing him on my primary list… my list of “Go To Gurus.”

  3. Only listen to marketers who have a specific thing to teach that you are interested in and which is not available from the Expert or Experts on your primary list.  Be very careful to only listen to the information that you can’t get from Experts on your “Go To List.”  If you don’t do that, you will end up with Information Overload again.

Internet marketing is like martial arts in this respect… each Master has his own system and techniques. They work together as a complete unit. But, if you mix the techniques from another Master, you may end up on your back looking at the party lights if the systems and techniques from the different Masters are not compatible… or worse.

Internet marketing is the same way. Mix the techniques from incompatible Gurus and you may find your business on its back looking up at the party lights.

The Gurus I have in my list are all compatible and where they aren’t I understand what and why.

 Hope this helped!

Unloading From Information Overload – Part 1

Either problem will absolutely kill your internet marketing business… And which ever problem you have, it will murder it with the death of “1000 Cuts.” … a very slow, painful way to watch a business die.

When you are suffering from information overload it may disguise itself as over commitment, or, visa versa.

But, fortunately you don’t need to figure out which problem you have if it’s not obvious to you. Because, both problems have pretty much the same results… you get almost nothing done successfully.

Here are the symptoms that you might see with either problem… you might have some of or all 5 of these symptoms:
